The Dominican Republic is alive with colour. It’s in the streets, the skies, the music—and most of all, the art. From vibrant murals on crumbling colonial walls to bold canvases drying in the sun, there’s an unfiltered energy in the work here. It’s emotional, political, personal—and completely magnetic.

When I first arrived, I was just soaking it in. Wandering through street markets, chatting to artists, buying the odd piece that caught my eye. But art has a way of pulling you deeper. One conversation led to another. Then came introductions. Phone numbers. WhatsApp groups. Before long, I found myself acting as a kind of accidental connector—linking local artists with visiting collectors, gallery owners, and people who genuinely wanted to invest in Dominican creativity.

It wasn’t something I planned. It just happened. There was a need—and I was there.

What struck me most was the honesty in the work. These weren’t pieces made for trends or tourists. They came from lived experience—raw, expressive, and often profoundly moving. And so much of it deserves to be seen far beyond this island.

Now, I see my role here not just as a visitor or admirer—but as a connector. The art is already brilliant. Sometimes it just needs a bridge—even if only for the time I was here.
